Monthly Devotions

A Year of Faith, Lived Together

Welcome to our guide to the Catholic Church’s traditional monthly devotions. Here at St. Anthony and our mission at OLP, our faith isn't just something we do on Sundays—it’s the rhythm of our daily lives, woven into the changing seasons of the year.

This beautiful tradition offers us a special spiritual focus for every month. Whether it’s walking with Mary in May or remembering our beloved dead in November, these devotions invite us to slow down and draw closer to God as a familia. Explore the months below to find prayers, history, and inspiration for your journey of faith.

January

The Holy Name of Jesus

Blessed be the name of Jesus, now and forever. As we start the New Year, we bow our heads in reverence to the Name above all names, placing our trust in His saving power for the year ahead.

The Holy Family

The model of love for all our homes. We look to Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the perfect example for our own families here in Elmendorf and Sasamco, asking for their peace to reign under our roofs.

St. Joseph

Guardian of the Redeemer and Patron of the Universal Church. We honor the quiet strength of the worker, the protector, and the father, entrusting our parish's labor and needs to his powerful intercession.

The Holy Eucharist

The source and summit of our Christian life. Whether at St. Anthony or OLP, we center our lives around the Altar, celebrating the Real Presence of Christ who feeds us and sustains us.

The Blessed Virgin Mary

Honoring our Blessed Mother, Queen of May. In the month of flowers, we bring our crowns and our songs to Nuestra Madre, thanking her for her "yes" and asking her to wrap her mantle of protection around us.

The price of our salvation, shed for us. We meditate on the sacrifice of Calvary, remembering that by His blood we have been washed clean and redeemed.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary

A heart that pondered all things and points to Jesus. We unite our joys and sorrows with the Immaculate Heart, the seat of wisdom and love, asking her to lead us always to her Son.

Our Lady of Sorrows

Standing in faith at the foot of the Cross. We walk with Mary through her seven sorrows, finding comfort in knowing that she understands our own struggles and stands beside us in our times of trial.

The Holy Rosary

Praying the Gospel with Our Blessed Mother. Rosaries in hand, we meditate on the mysteries of Christ’s life, a prayer as familiar and comforting as the heartbeat of our mother.

The Holy Souls in Purgatory

Praying for all the faithful departed. In a season dear to our culture, we remember those who have gone before us—our ancestors and loved ones—lifting them up in prayer until we meet again.

Advent & The Nativity

Preparing our hearts for the coming of the King. Amidst the lights and festivities, we quiet our hearts to prepare a room for the Christ Child, welcoming Him into our lives with joy and hope.

A Sacred Inheritance

We are heirs to a spiritual treasury. These prayers and devotions are more than history; they are a living inheritance passed down through generations. In a changing world, they remain our steady anchor, connecting our daily lives to the same deep well of grace that sustained the saints and binds our parish family together in Christ.
